Destination Queenstown will seek a $900,000 funding increase from the Queenstown Lakes District Council after members this morning voted in favour of the move.
DQ chairman Matt Hollyer said the vote was carried 79.3% in favour.
The organisation would now submit the result of the vote as evidence of support from the DQ membership for the funding increase, from July 1, which the council would consider as part of its annual plan process.
If approved by the council, the increase to the levy, a targeted rate on commercial and accommodation properties, will increase DQ's annual core funding to $4.5 million.
Its funding in subsequent years would revert to the normal annual incremental increase determined by the council.
Mr Hollyer said the additional funds would allow DQ to increase its investment in the Australian market activity, domestic shoulder season marketing, visitor insights, research and data and the Queenstown Winter Festival.
A year ago DQ members voted against a proposal to increase funding 10% over three years after failing to reach the 75% threshold.
