False alarm in 'paraponter' rescue

A helicopter and rescue team deployed to Coronet Peak following reports a paraponter may have crashed have been stood down.

A police spokeswoman said after closer inspection, the "something orange" reported by a member of the public turned out to be the cover for a snow maker. 

Police were called to assist in the operation after the object was spotted around 1.20pm today.
