Festival at Coronet Peak cancelled

Destination Queenstown has cancelled an Adventure Festival event planned for the Coronet Peak ski area this Thursday evening.

The regional tourism organisation’s interim chief executive, Ann Lockhart, said it had made the difficult decision to cancel the free community event because of the ‘‘ongoing and evolving situation’’ over the Covid-19 outbreak.

It would now look at moving the event into the programme for its Winter Festival, which is scheduled to run from June 18 to 22.

‘‘While this is disappointing, we feel this is the correct decision to take in the best interests of our community.’’

Mrs Lockhart said she wanted to thank the more than 1500 people who had registered for the event for their support.
