The weekly classes at Frankton’s Te Atamira begin next Wednesday, running for eight weeks until June 25.
Hebda, who’s been running the classes since 2022, says they’re suitable for everyone from "beginners who don’t know how to hold a pencil" to experienced artists wanting to hone their skills.
The classes help students look at their subject in a more abstract way, she says.
"I try to teach my students to look at the model not as a human with a nose and eyes and so on, but as a set of lines and shapes and textures.
"I do a lot of warm-up exercises to help people break their fear of making mistakes, because mindset is the most important thing you have to practise."
She tries to guide students towards finding their own way of drawing.
"It"s a very mindful practice, because you have to be focused, you have to concentrate on the present moment."
The classes have proved popular, with some students returning year after year, she says.
Bookings are required for the classes, which cost $29 a week.
