Man charged after throwing taxi driver's mobile

A man threw a taxi driver’s mobile phone out of the window of the car they were travelling in early this morning, in Queenstown.

Senior Sergeant Paula Enoka, of Queenstown, said the Auckland man was being driven along Frankton Road at 12.30am when an "argument" happened and the incident took place.

The driver activated a safety alarm that alerted the taxi company which then contacted police.

Three other passengers were also in the taxi.

The 39-year-old, who threw the phone from the taxi, was charged for wilful damage.

Snr Sgt Enoka said police were reviewing the taxi driver’s dashboard camera to see if further charges would be laid.

The driver was not injured.

Snr Sgt Enoka said the phone was retrieved but she did not know the extent of the damage.
