A police speed radar unit recorded the car's speed about 9pm last Friday, on the busy 100kmh-limit road.
Sergeant Chris Brooks was critical of the driver.
"This dangerous behaviour ... not only put other road users at risk but clearly had little respect for the Gibbston community who live along this road.
"The vehicle is believed to have gone to ground in the Gibbston area."
