Rescue chopper on display

Lakes District Air Rescue Trust throws open its Queenstown Airport rescue helicopter hangar to the public this Sunday for its third open day.

Staff will be on hand to explain how the rescue chopper operates and how it serves the community.

The day runs from 10am until 2pm with donations, on entry, going to the upcoming Westpac Chopper Ride.

There will be draws for two rides in the chopper on the day — at about noon and 2pm — and also a sausage sizzle

And there will be a chance to ride on the rescue winch simulator.

Also on hand will be personnel from other emergency services including airport crash rescue, Coastguard, St John ambulance, alpine rescue, police and fire.

The rescue hangar’s at the end of Tex Smith Lane.
