The mother of a Queenstown-raised brother and sister who made a splash on The X Factor Australia this week is planning a TV viewing party at her Arrowtown home this Saturday night.

Kathleen Brentwood said a ''fan club'' of a few long-time friends and supporters would join her to watch the performance of daughter Isla (29) and son Finley (26) in the first New Zealand screening of the Australian TV talent show.

Known as the Brentwood Duo, the pair impressed the judges on Monday night's episode with their acoustic version of Major Lazer's hit Powerful.

Mrs Brentwood, who is a stalwart of the performing arts in the Wakatipu, told the Otago Daily Times she spoke to the pair yesterday during their busy schedule of media interviews.

''They are pretty overwhelmed by the level of interest and support they're getting from New Zealand.''

Their late father Pete being an Australian meant they were getting plenty of family backing from both sides of the Tasman.

She was not surprised by the impression they had made, as they had spent the past few years ''honing their craft'' and had chosen a song that complemented their voices, she said.

''They try to create a unique sound for themselves. They strip it right back and put their own bit of magic into it.

''I'm really quite proud of them.''

Mrs Brentwood said the pair attended St Joseph's Primary School in the resort before going to boarding schools in Oamaru and Timaru.

They went on to further study in Christchurch. Mr Brentwood graduated from the NZ Broadcasting School while Miss Brentwood studied musical theatre at the National Academy of Singing and Dramatic Arts.

In 2014, shortly after coming third in Queenstown's Songstars original music competition, they moved to Melbourne to focus on their music.

The shift had paid big dividends, and the pair quit their normal jobs to perform full-time at weddings, events and on cruise ships as Brentwood Duo, she said.

They had become adept at marketing themselves, to the point where they had to opt out of other work a year ago to keep up with demand.

Their plan for The X Factor Australia was to ''enjoy the ride and see how far they can take it''.

-Brentwood Duo's first performance will be screened on The X Factor Australia this Saturday at 7pm on TV3.
