A Tuapeka Mouth man faces charges after allegedly crashing three times while driving with a breath-alcohol level almost three times the legal limit yesterday.
Constable Andy Denny, of Balclutha, said it appeared the 35-year-old Tuapeka Mouth man, driving a white Toyota Corolla, reversed into a lamppost in Salcombe St, Kaitangata, about 12.30pm. An hour later, he hit a parked car in Salcombe St.
About 2pm, the man was driving north in Mt Wallace Rd, towards Benhar, when he crossed the road and hit a grass bank, Const Denny said.
A member of the public called police about a suspected drink-driver in Kaitangata but the man was not found.
About 3pm, police arrested the man near the Balclutha War Memorial Hall, after he shouted and swore at passers-by.
Const Denny said the man had put others in danger and it was lucky he had not injured anyone.
The 35-year-old was charged with driving with a breath-alcohol level of 1174mcg and driving while prohibited and is due to appear in the Dunedin District Court today.
