Farmers might have been disappointed by the lack of rain at the 152nd Tokomairiro A&P Show but attendees revelled in the hot weather.

Show president Richard McElrea said a small burst of rain in the morning of the Milton-based show on Saturday made the showgrounds a little slippery but it stayed hot throughout the day.

"Probably, farmers would have liked to have seen it rain but it stayed fine."

The day went according to plan with few hiccups.

"You always would like a few more people but it was a nice day. It was great."

Flick the Fire Engine made an appearance, much to the delight of children, Mr McElrea said.

He said it was used extensively throughout the day.

"Flick seemed very successful. Kids loved him."

Other entertainment at the show included  carnival rides and musical duo Idol Frets.

New Zealand young farmer of the year Nigel Woodhead appeared as the show’s guest.

Show secretary Paula McLeod said they were "very, very lucky" with the weather.

The usual animal judging competitions  continued throughout the day.

Most people began packing up about 4pm.

The supreme dairy cow award went to Bonacord Farms.

The Supreme Horse award went to Bronwyn Woodhead.
