Outgoing Balclutha community co-ordinator Irene Mosley has been thanked for her "enormous contribution" in the role by the Clutha District Council's district development board, which is now tinkering with the role for the new year.

Mrs Mosley stands down at the end of the month after five years in the job.

During that time she has played a leading role in revitalising the town through various projects.

Board chairman Jeff Seymour said the role, had expanded far beyond what was originally envisaged "and the board appreciates the fact that Irene incorporated the extra workload so willingly".

The board was now taking the chance to review and refine the role.

Early next year, the board will advertise a short-term contract for a co-ordinator to liaise with community organisations and help groups find resources.

Next month, the council will set up a page on its website to help the public easily access some of these resources.

District development manager Julie Pearse said the short-term contract, which will finish in December 2009, would allow public feedback during the long-term council community plan (LTCCP) process, to help the council shape the future of the job.

"The expectation is that, by the end of 2009, a new contract representing that feedback . . . will have been developed, with a new person in the role."

That would mean some personnel changes over the next 14 months, she acknowledged.
