Computer course lifts skill level

Clutha farmers have been brushing up on their computer skills in a series of classes held in small halls and even living rooms.

The Clutha Agricultural Development Board has been taking its Switch On seminars around the district, helping farmers hone their computer skills.

Farmers and other rural people from Heriot and Tapanui to Lawrence and Tahakopa have been given tuition and help to improve their skills with word processing, spreadsheets, the internet and email.

Board projects manager Malcolm Deverson said the programme aimed to give rural people confidence and capability in computer use.

"We've been really impressed how farmers and others have come to our sessions and said `I've got behind with this computer stuff and need to catch up'."
