Heritage spots in brochure

Clutha's rich heritage locations feature in a brochure aimed at making it simple for visitors and locals to track them down.

The new Heritage in Clutha brochure, with official Clutha Country branding, was launched this week by South Otago Museum curator Gary Ross, who is keen to get the message out that Clutha boasts a "staggering" number of heritage sites, just waiting to be visited.

The Clutha district heritage trail network has been running for several years but Mr Ross said the glossy brochure provided the most up-to-date information and offered a comprehensive overview.

Different parts of the districts are broken down, with 28 different sites in total spread across trails boasting names like Tokomairiro, Tuapeka Gold, Pomahaka River, Clutha River and Catlins.

The main aim of the brochure was "to create an overview of tangible, accessible attractions that celebrate our heritage and encourage the travelling public to tour extensively within the Clutha district", Mr Ross said.

Each information centre around the district is in on the idea too, offering detailed overviews of the heritage trial sites in their patch.

Meanwhile, a Clutha Country brochure on the district's museums has also been unveiled, detailing information and features of the district's five museums.

Mr Ross said the two brochures were very timely and provided consistent information for the growing number of visitors interested in learning more about Clutha's heritage and history.
