Interest in NZ ploughing team

The New Zealand ploughing team - including Clinton ploughman Scott McKenzie - is attracting plenty of media interest before the world championships in Sweden.

Mr McKenzie will compete in the conventional category, while Malcolm Taylor, of Putaruru, will compete in the reversible division when the championships are held on May 13 and 14.

Television, print and radio media have all been interested in the New Zealand team, due to the distance it has travelled to compete.

There was also interest in Mr Taylor having brought his tractor and plough with him, team manager Graham Miller said.

Grass ploughing practice was going well but proving difficult as it was drier and not as free as the team thought it might have been.

Both men had spent time in the workshop working on their ploughs to cope with the conditions, Mr Miller said.

The world championships have attracted entries from 29 countries.
