Last pool closure

The Balclutha Centennial Swimming Pool will close for two days in February in what the Clutha District Council hopes to be the final shutdown to address technical issues that have plagued the swimming pool over the past couple of years.

The council's manager of corporate services, Alan Dickson, said work done during last winter's four-week shutdown had, by and large, addressed the water heating problems the $4 million pool had faced since it was refurbished in 2012.

The complaints had stopped and the pool's temperature had been ''pretty consistent'', he said.

The work, timed so as not to interrupt the pool's use by pupils on summer holidays, was to finish ''a couple of things that didn't get done in August and September''. Mr Dickson said the pool had been well used over the summer holidays.

The pool will be closed from 9am on February 4 until it reopens on Waitangi Day, February 6. Hours that day will be 10am-4.30pm.

From February 7, weekend hours will be from 1pm to 4.30pm on Saturdays and from 10.30am to noon and 1pm to 4.30pm on Sundays.
