Mrs MacPherson was nominated for her decade of service to Balclutha Red Cross, where she recently stepped down as president, but continues to run its op shop.
Among her many responsibilities was the co-ordination of more than 100 drivers, delivering about 600 Meals on Wheels each month.
She said she was proud to have become an NZ Red Cross Life Member recently, and also delighted to receive this latest acknowledgement.
‘‘It’s not what you do it for, but it’s nice to be appreciated. There are hundreds who do so much for Red Cross locally and further afield, and I’ve been proud to be involved for the past decade.’’
Having grown up on a farm near Warepa, Mrs MacPherson said she enjoyed roast lamb, and would serve her award to family, with mint sauce and gravy, very soon.
