"Donna is an amazing lady who helps out at the drop of a hat," her nominator testified.
"In fact, she knits great hats. And jerseys, and baby blankets for all her family and friends expecting newborns."
Mrs Hayes was only happy her hobby brought others happiness.
"I’m so glad my mum taught me to knit and the joy of knitting for others," she said.
"That’s my passion, creating something from scratch and seeing how pleased they are when you give it to someone ... And years later they mention it again, tell you they’ve still got it or are hanging it on to the next little one — that’s magic."
