The Balclutha man missing for four days has been found dead.

Members of the police dive squad recovered Ian Marshall’s body from the Clutha River late yesterday afternoon. He was last seen alive on Thursday morning in the Koau Rd area near Otanomomo.

Sergeant Jason Leadley, of Balclutha, said Mr Marshall’s death would be referred to the coroner.

"While this was an outcome no-one wanted, we would like to acknowledge the Search and Rescue volunteers from across the district who have assisted with the search over the last three days," Sgt Leadley said.

Boats, helicopters and multiple LandSAR teams spent Friday, Saturday and Sunday searching  Balclutha  and the Clutha River area for the man, aged in his 60’s.

Police offered their sympathies to Mr Marshall’s friends and family.
