A man was lucky to escape injury after a shot fired from an airgun or slingshot shattered his window at the weekend, police say.
The man had been standing in his kitchen washing dishes on Saturday night when the incident occurred.
Sergeant Martin Bull, of Balclutha, said it appeared someone had shot at the man's window with an air rifle or slingshot of some description.
"The occupant had been standing in line of the shot and could have been injured if the projectile had made it through into the kitchen."
Police were called to the Baker St address about 7.20pm.
Sgt Bull said police wanted to hear from anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the area last Saturday night.
The Balclutha police crime- line number is (03) 418-4710.
