Three people were injured, one seriously, in a two-car collision in the Manuka Gorge this morning.
A police spokeswoman said they were called about 8.50am to the scene on State Highway 8 near Roundhill Rd, about halfway between Milton and Lawrence.
St John spokesman Gerard Campbell said it sent one ambulance and two rescue helicopters.
Ambulance officers attended to a 74-year-old man with serious injuries at the scene, and two men in their thirties with moderate to serious injuries. All three were airlifted to Dunedin Hospital.
The highway was closed for a time but has since reopened and all restrictions had been removed by 2.45pm.
A reporter at the scene said the crash happened near the intersection with Manuka Hill Rd.
Emergency services, including a rescue helicopter, were at the scene as of about 9.45am.
