A police pursuit of a stolen car was abandoned north of Balclutha today, police say.
Police were called after petrol was stolen from Alma Motors in Oamaru just after 4pm, a police spokeswoman said.
The petrol was pumped into a stolen silver Mercedes Benz, she said.
The "brief'' police pursuit of the Mercedes Benz was abandoned north of Balclutha just after 5.30pm due to the manner of driving, she said.
