A South Otago resident is desperate to get the memory card back from a digital camera which was stolen from his car at the weekend.

Ross Chalmers, of Inch Clutha, said he parked his car near the Kaitangata pub over the weekend.

He returned to it on Monday to discover one of the windows had been smashed and the Canon DSLR camera taken from inside.

Mr Chalmers was insured and could repair the vehicle and replace the stolen items but was particularly missing the camera’s memory card.

"There were photos of the old man ... we haven’t got many left of him."

He had appealed for help online and asked for any information on the theft.

In a Facebook post, Mr Chalmers said: "If it was you or you know who it was please come forward. We won’t take it any further, we just really want the camera [and] photos."

The camera was in a blue bag with the name "Chalmers" printed on its side.

Of course when something like this happens! it so brings home the thought 'always back up your Photos / .jpg's'. Dear I say it! if they are important photos then 'get prints printed' and we have a house rule of always backing up important digital images / files to two back up systems! the computer hard drive and also to a stand along hard drive!

Here's hoping that Ross gets lucky and finds the memory card!
