Restrictions imposed

Summer has arrived, and so have water restrictions in Clutha.

Stage one water restrictions came into force yesterday throughout the Clutha district, limiting water use between the hours of 8pm and 8am.

Clutha District Council chief executive Charles Hakkaart said limiting the use of water now should ensure there is a sufficient supply to avoid more serious restrictions later in summer.

Watering systems and sprinklers can still be used between those times, but should not be left unattended, and people should be mindful of wasting water.

If weather conditions become more extreme, the council would review the level and may impose further restrictions, which could include banning the use of sprinklers and hoses.
