The annual Keep New Zealand Beautiful clean up week runs from September 5 to 12.
Keep New Zealand Beautiful (KNZB) is a charitable organisation focused on educating and promoting New Zealanders' involvement in keeping their country clean and green.
The Clutha District Council supplies bags and gloves to all local schools, groups and other organisations keen to take part while contractors SouthRoads help collect the rubbish.
Council chief executive Charles Hakkaart said the Clean Up week was a great opportunity for people to take some pride in their area.
"Dedicating a week each year to this good cause helps to generate community pride and, as a result, keeping our district tidy becomes second nature to all. We are encouraging all local schools, groups and other organisations to take part in this year's clean up."
Last year, more than 1.3 million New Zealanders took part.
Anyone interested in participating should contact Shiree Dudley at the council or visit their nearest council service centre.
