They will also be able to get accurate temperature readings with the installation of a new digital clock and temperature gauge in the central business district.
Warm weather yesterday provided the perfect opportunity to test its readings. Owner Doug Nesbit said it had been about 10 years since Balclutha last had a clock, so he decided to install one on the side of his James St business.
The time and temperatures are frequently updated using data from a satellite, and he said it had been well-received by the Balclutha community since its installation two weeks ago.
The digital clock and temperature gauge, including signwriting, cost several thousand dollars.
