A new sporting event will take place in the Catlins in mid-December.
The Pawakataka Trail will be staged in the west Catlins on Saturday, December 12.
It is being organised by the Mokoreta-Redan Promotion Group and supported by Tourism Catlins, Sport Southland, Sport Clutha, the Clutha District Council and Venture Southland.
Money raised will go towards upgrading and maintaining the Mokoreta-Redan Community Hall.
The trail includes three events - a 40km mountain bike trail, a 22km recreational ride and the Mt Egremont 10km cross-country run or walk.
Mokoreta-Redan Promotions Group spokesman Simon McRae said the event would take participants on "an awe-inspiring journey of scenic bush trails, forestry roads and farmland".
