A woman has been taken to Southland Hospital after a bus rolled near the Southland town of Glenham.

A police spokeswoman confirmed police were called to the scene after a bus rolled onto its side on Wyndham-Letterbox Rd about 8.20am this morning.

No passengers were understood to be on board at the time of the accident.

One person, which the Otago Daily Times understands was the driver, has been taken to hospital with injuries.

A St John spokesman confirmed the woman was taken by ambulance to Southland Hospital with moderate injuries.

About 8.40am traffic control was put in place, however, the road was cleared by about 10.45am.

Police have urged drivers to take additional care on the roads in icy conditions.

Southland District Council urged motorists to take extreme caution, especially in Edendale, Wyndham, Glenham and the Catlins.

"Today's bad weather is creating hazardous driving conditions on roads throughout the district.

"Road surfaces are very slushy."
