Charges after high-speed chase

A police pursuit of a car travelling up to 100kmh through the streets of Gore on Monday night ended when the offending vehicle hit a kerb, Acting Sergeant Martin Cupit said.

The vehicle was seen leaving Traffers Hotel in Hokonui Dr at 7.30pm and the driver failed to stop for police, he said.

A two to three-minute pursuit took place, during which the car was driven at high speed and overtook a vehicle in Main St.

The chase ended at the corner of Wigan and Bury Sts, when the car hit the kerb, disabling the vehicle, Acting Sgt Cupit said.

A 22-year-old woman would appear in the Gore District Court on April 21, charged with dangerous driving, failing to stop and refusing to provide a blood sample.

It was the latest in a "spree" of young drivers being caught driving after drinking, he said.

"They're not just having a few beers.

"They drink to excess and then drive. It's rather a concern."
