Child killed in Southland truck crash

A 4-year-old boy killed when a truck he was in rolled into a Southland paddock this morning was from Dunedin, police have confirmed.

The boy and two 6-year-old siblings were in the truck, which was carrying bobby calves, when the accident occurred.

Sergeant Clint Wright, of Gore, said the accident happened on State Highway 1 between Moore and St Ronan's Rds, Edendale about 2.50am.

The trucks driver sustained moderate injuries and the boy's two siblings suffered minor injuries.

A number of bobby calves were euthanized at the scene.

Police are keen to speak with anyone with information or who was travelling towards Gore around the time of the crash and may have passed a medium-sized truck with high sides.
