Entries open for 2010 moonshine trail adventure

Entries for next year's MLT Moonshine Trail open today at noon, Sport Southland Eastern Southland manager Richard Pasco says.

This year the event attracted 670 competitors, 66 per cent came from Otago/Southland, others came from Christchurch and a few North Islanders attended the event, Mr Pasco said.

Next year a new 10km run/walk would be added to the event and the 30km and 15km run courses had been revamped, he said.

"We are trying to get more of the Gore community involved," Mr Pasco said.

Next year $5 from every entry fee would go towards the development of cycle or walking tracks in the Croydon Bush area, he said.

The event starts and finishes in Dolamore Park.

The terrain is hilly with picturesque views.

This is the fourth year the event has been held and this year a new 30km mountain bike event was incorporated in the competition (alongside the existing two mountain bike events) and more than 100 people entered that section.

Next year's event will be held a week prior to the Hokonui Moonshiners' Festival on February 20.

As a warm-up, the Hokonui Moonshiners' Festival committee is going to have moonshine samples available after the ride/run.
