Gore figure skaters whirled their way to medal placings at the New Zealand Figure Skating Championships held in Gore from September to October.

The results are out and Ice Sports Southland publicity officer Susan Chittock said the 18-strong team from Gore entered 10 events and won medals in eight.

The final medal tally was eight gold, 11 silver and two bronze which covered three figure skating disciplines. The disciplines were freeskate, dance and synchronised skating.

‘‘It is an impressive performance by the young skaters who train an average of 12 hours a week during the competition season and up to seven hours once competitions have finished,'' Ms Chittock said.

Ms Chittock wanted to thank the Mataura Licensing Trust for sponsoring the Ice Sports Southland Mataura Licensing Trust Ice Odyssey Synchronised team.
