The Hokonui Fashion Design Awards celebrated its 20th anniversary in July but, soon after, organisers hinted the high running costs and lack of a large enough venue could force their hand to take the event to a large centre like nearby Invercargill.
But award show director Heather Paterson yesterday confirmed the show would be staying in Gore.
She told the Ensign extra backing from the Mataura Licensing Trust (MLT) meant the difference between staying in Gore or looking further afield.
The MLT's combined meeting this week agreed to commit $25,000 plus incidentals towards the annual event, a slight rise on its usual funding agreement.
"The MLT have always been supportive to us. They have helped grow the event and they have helped us keep it in Gore," Ms Paterson said.
Having the trust's support was the difference between keeping the established awards show in Gore or looking elsewhere, Mrs Paterson said.
"We will be staying in Gore. There is no way we would move if we have got the backing of the MLT."
The awards are one of the premier gatherings for aspiring fashion designers.
They are held at the end of July every year.
