Gore musician Peter Reid and Ralph Beale take a stroll down memory lane while anticipating the screening of the Rolling Stones movie 'Shine a Light', to be shown tomorrow night.
Gore man Peter Reid is all set to relive the excitement of attending the 1965 Rolling Stones concert held in Invercargill's Civic Theatre.

Mr Reid and fellow music enthusiast Ralph Beale cannot wait to see the Rolling Stones documentary movie Shine a Light, to be screened at The SBS St James Theatre on Thursday night.

Mr Beale was instrumental in bringing the concert documentary, filmed in 2006, to Gore and the first night is to be a fundraiser for the newly refurbished theatre.

The evening will begin with drinks from 7pm to 8pm and the money raised from the refreshment sales will go towards the theatre's refurbishment.

The newly revamped theatre would be the perfect setting for the concert movie because it had a sound system better than or equal to any theatre sound system in the South Island, Mr Beale said.

And the chance to see the consummate rockers in action would be very good value for money, considering the price of a concert ticket to see the hard men of rock in the flesh.

When Mr Reid went to the Invercargill Stones concert on February 2, 1965, which had as supporting acts Roy Orbison, Ray Columbus and the Invaders, and the New Beats, it cost the equivalent of $3.55 a ticket. His wage was the equivalent of $9.75 a week, he said.

Mr Beale had considered attending the Rolling Stones concert in Wellington three years ago at a cost of $500 a ticket.

‘‘The Stones have influenced many other bands over their 47-year history and many local musicians will no doubt be keen to watch them tomorrow night,'' Mr Beale said.

The doco/movie, by director Martin Scorsese (The Last Waltz), was filmed on the first night of the Rolling Stones' performance at the Beacon Theatre in New York in 2006 and will deliver patrons great sounds, interviews and uninterrupted views of the concert.
