Two large fires in Invercargill

Fire crews are battling a large house fire in Invercargill, shortly after containing another well-involved blaze in the city.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman Andrew Norris said four appliances were in attendance at a William St address which they were called to shortly before 10pm.

The fire was "well involved" and could be seen from some distance, he said.

It was not yet extinguished and crews were working to fight the blaze.

Crews also battled a well-involved fire on Rosewood Ave after being called at 8.10pm.

It was now contained and the four vehicles had left the scene.

A fire investigator had been called.

Both properties were extensively damaged.

No-one was injured in either fire.
