Coastguard Wanaka hopes to be granted consent to build its new boat shed at Eely Point, but in the meantime it has money in the bank for its construction.

This week, Wheels at Wanaka general manager Allan Dippie gave Coastguard Wanaka skipper Lynn Stuart $20,000 to help seed funding for the project.

Towing the Wanaka coastguard vessel behind a 1958 Fordson Super Major with a Mercury V8 engine, one of the tractors displayed at Wheels at Wanaka in April, Mr Dippie said the inaugural event made a healthy profit and other Wanaka "good causes" would also receive a donation.
