The Otago Southland Rescue Helicopter Trust and Dunstan Hospital will be the beneficiaries of this year’s Rotary Club of Wānaka Cropping Competition.

Club president Marie Fitchett said some of the proceeds would go towards training paramedics with the Otago Southland Rescue Helicopter Trust.

A significant donation to Dunstan Hospital to update heart-monitoring equipment was also being planned.

Meanwhile, Upper Clutha crop growers are preparing to compete for bragging rights as the district’s best crop grower.

Winter crops such as kale, swede and fodder beet will be judged in early May and winners announced at a dinner and fundraising auction for the farming community on May 24 at the Lake Hāwea Community Centre.

Cropping competition organiser George Scott said local businesses had donated auction items.

More information is online and entries are now open.
