There appears to be some quiet confidence within the closest confines of the Zoi Sadoswki-Synnott fan club about what will happen today.
Fans were happy and calm in Cardrona’s Fan Zone yesterday — perhaps holding something in reserve for a storm of enthusiasm at today’s big air snowboard final.
Wanaka’s golden girl, Zoi Sadoswki-Synnott (20), proceeded clinically through yesterday’s big air qualifying rounds, landing each of her three jumps strongly and finishing the top qualifier.
Within the Fan Zone at Cardrona, about 30 people cheered and clapped at the end of each of her runs.
Zoi’s father, Sean Synnott, was keeping cool yesterday, after his super-excited reaction from Zoi’s gold medal effort caught media attention.
"We thought she played it safely with her second run but her third run was pretty nice," he said.
Zoi would do her own thing and not pay attention to media expectations today, he said.
"I think there’s a little less pressure with this one. We know she can pull it out on any given day and if a medal comes, it is a bonus. She has her game plan. There’s no expectations from her parents either. But do not underestimate her ability."
