Wanaka paddleboarder exploring innovations in sport

A Wanaka paddleboarder who has reached the pinnacle of her sport several times in the last decade has decided to change tack.

Former world champion paddleboarder Annabel Anderson has joined the shift to foiling, allowing her to "fly" above the water.

Ms Anderson uses a boat to get on to the foil but is also working towards using a kite to the same effect.

Foiling is a relatively new entry to Wanaka water sports but is increasingly popular in Auckland and overseas locations like Hawaii.

Ms Anderson was recently recognised by an international website dedicated to paddleboarding as the sport’s "most dominant" female athlete of the last decade.
