Warning as ice causes crashes in South

Southern district police are warning motorists to take care in sub-zero conditions this evening after attending four crashes caused by ice.

A police spokeswoman said it was fortunate no-one was injured, as two of the crashes involved cars rolling.

The first happened in Old Coach Rd near Clinton at 3.50pm where a driver lost control and skidded on ice.

In the same road at 4.55pm a car slid and rolled and needed to be towed away.

At about 7pm a vehicle and a trailer left the road and slid into a ditch on the Athol Five Rivers Highway (SH6).

At 7.40pm on the Lumsden-Riversdale Highway (SH94) near Lumsden a car slid off the road due to black ice and ended up on its roof.
