India and Ireland may seem an unlikely musical combo but it is one that works.

Next month the Eastern Southland Gallery will host the India Meets Ireland concert.

It will feature Indian ragas with tabla master Basant Madhur and his daughter Sargam, who

play tablas and sitars in the North Indian style.

The concert will also feature traditional Irish music performed by Jon Sanders and his daughter Jenny Os.

Mr Sanders and his daughter hail from Dingle, County Kerry, Ireland, and will use bouzouki, guitar and vocals to blend the flavours of music and song from the Irish west coast with contemporary compositions.

Gallery programmes officer Marcella Geddes said

Sanders had performed previously at the gallery with Beyondsemble and the Alpaca Social Club.

The show will be in two halves. Each will feature Indian or Irish music and then blend into a fusion for the final acts. The concert is at 8pm on Tuesday, February 13.
