It is a long distance from Gore to Myanmar but the South East Asian nation will get an airing in Eastern Southland on Sunday.
Myanmar’s Peacock Film Festival will be screened at the Calvin Community Church on May 4, starting at 1.30pm.
There will be four recent short documentaries from Myanmar.
The selection of the short documentaries celebrates the resilience of the people of Myanmar as they fight for their future.
All films were made in the second half of 2024, often at grave risk to the film-makers, and present moving accounts of the current situation in Myanmar.
The country has been in a state of constant upheaval since a military coup in February 2021.
A devastating earthquake on March 28, which struck near the ancient capital of Mandalay, killed more than 5000 people, injured thousands more, and destroyed buildings and infrastructure.
The event is free to attend and donations are invited.
All proceeds will go to earthquake relief and filmmaking.
