The students of Māruawai College rolled into their ball walk-through at Calvin Community Church on Friday via a colourful display of classic cars.

They kept it country too, with would-be year-13 ex-student Lykan Eaton arriving on a tractor.

A photographer from The Ensign was there to capture the students stepping out in style before the main Great Gatsby-themed event back at the school hall.

Māruawai head girl Bryher Wilson said the ball, that went on until 11pm, was successful.

The hall was decorated with drop-cloths and tinsel chandeliers and students danced to teacher Sam Hadfield’s band Crash Course.
