Balclutha’s high school netball athletes showed home dominance at Cross Recreation Centre last Tuesday, July 22. The annual sports interchange between South Otago High School (SOHS) and Gore High School, which became Māruawai College last year, has been running for about 50 years. This year, senior teams travelled to Gore, while juniors were hosted in Balclutha. "Across the day, we played netball, rugby, basketball, football, and hockey," SOHS health and physical education teacher Ashlyn Reid said. "Out of 12 games played, SOHS came away with eight wins making us overall winners on the day." SOHS had two netball teams at home, 10A Alpha and 9A Blue, who achieved 26-25 and 37-15 victories, respectively. "We’re really proud of how all our teams performed. Everybody showed sportsmanship, teamwork, determination [and] a huge thanks to the umpires and coaches who helped the day run smoothly."
