A keen walking group is looking to make new friends through exercise.

The Gore District Walkers are back for the new year, and are looking to welcome new members to the group.

The group has been around for about 40 years and has accommodated many walkers over the years.

Group member Ngaire Evans has been a member for many years and said she "thoroughly enjoyed" making friendships through the group.

"It’s great to keep up the exercise, and the group is a great way to meet new people and make friends."

"We start back in February as we have a break over the Christmas and New Year period."

The group goes for extra walks outside Gore, including travelling to walk in Lawrence, Te Anau and Invercargill.

The trips start at 9am and tend to finish at about 4pm.

The extra trips cost a small fee but are "worth the memories", she said.

The group has many walkers who are retired, and they are always open to newcomers.

"We’re very happy to take new people into the group."

"It’s been a lovely way for many locals to bond through exercise."

People can contact NgaireEvans on 027 346 3123 or Jennie Ritchie on 027 778 3332 if they are interested.
