Ashton (15) won the girls under-16 80m hurdles in the record time of 11.70sec at the South Island secondary schools athletics championships at Surrey Park.
She became the dominant young hurdler in the country this season when she won the 80m hurdles at the New Zealand secondary schools championships in December in 12.21sec.
She also won the women's -18 100m at the New Zealand club championships last month in an Otago record time of 14.63sec.
Ashton, who is coached by Megan Gibbons, also won the 100m in Invercargill in 13.03sec.
Her local rival Maddy Spence (Columba) also broke the old record when she finished second in the 80m hurdles in 11.90sec. Spence, a member of New Zealand sprint coach Brent Ward's squad, also won the 200m in 26.60sec.
Athletes in the stable of throwing coach Raylene Bates also broke records and won titles.
The record-breakers in the hammer throw were Bradley Tarleton (Taieri College) in the boys under-16 event with 47.80m, beating the old record by 6m. Younger brother Aaron beat the old record by a massive 11m with his throw of 29.05m in the under-14 grade.
Courtney Martin (East Otago) won the girls under-16 shot put with a record throw of 12.92m and also the discus (34.51m) and hammer throw (40.36m).
Libby Jones (St Hilda's), another member of Bates' squad, won gold in the senior girls hammer throw with 37.57m and silver in the discus with 36.12m.
Sam Porter (East Otago) won the senior boys javelin with 48.88m.
Otago athletes were also dominant in the senior boys sprints. Gavin Stark (Blue Mountain College) won the 100m in 11.45sec and Robert Jopp (John McGlashan) the 200m in 22.44sec. Jopp was also a member of the John McGlashan 4x400m relay team that won the open boys event in 3min 31.84sec. The other members were Charlie Hantler, Joe Beamish and Ed Davies.
Sam Bremer (Kavanagh) won the senior boys 3000m in 9min 30.02sec and was second in the 1500m in 3min 59.84sec.
Hugh McLeod-Jones (Otago Boys') won the boys under-15 hammer throw with a record distance of 42.14m, 12.49m more than the old record. He also won the javelin with 42.89m.
Talia Reid (Dunstan) won the girls under-14 80m hurdles in a record time of 12.70sec and Yvonne van Baarle (Blue Mountain College) set a record in the javelin with 33.83m. Kia Wales (Dunstan) won the triple jump in the same grade with 10.15m.
Madeline Witchell (Queen's) set a record in the AWD long jump with 3.52m and also won the 100m (16.03sec) and 200m (37.39sec).
Meg McKay (St Hilda's) won the senior girls high jump with 1.59m and school mate Erin O'Brien the open girls 2km walk in 11min 59.70sec. Felix McDonald (King's) won the boys under-15 long jump with 6.02m.
The John McGlashan team of Harry Rodger, Guillaume Bennani, Spencer Byers and Rory Ferguson won the boys under-15 4x100m relay in 46.69sec.
John McGlashan won its third relay in the boys under-14 4x100m in 51.58sec. The team was Toby McDonald, Yugen Miyahara, George Russell and Charlie Baker.
Hannah English (Columba) won the girls under-16 1500m (5min 03.94sec) and 3000m (10min 37.87sec) double.
Matthew Ogle (Otago Boys') won the boys under-14 400m (55.43sec) and 800m (2min 13.30sec).
Otago girls under-15 winners were Adrianna Mawhinney (Dunstan, high jump 1.67m, triple jump 10.70m), Jasmine Ng (Waitaki Girls', 100m 12.89sec), Caitlyn George (St Hilda's, 200m 26.22sec) and the St Hilda's 4x100m relay team of Shallard Hayley, Aria Park, Caitlin Kenny and Caitlyn George (51.66sec).
