Otago shot putter Jess Hamill has claimed the region's second medal at the para-athletics world championships in London.

The 26-year-old threw 7.77m to win bronze in the F34 class of the event.

She was consistent throughout the competition, with two other throws over 7.70m and another two over 7.60m.

Last year she won a bronze medal at the Rio Paralympics.

China's Zou Lijuan and Tunisia's Li Yingli won gold and silver in the shot put in a tight contest, throwing 8.23m and 8.22m, respectively.

The medal was Otago's second of the 2017 world championships, with Holly Robinson claiming silver in the women's javelin F46.

Anna Grimaldi withdrew from the 200m final and 100m due to a foot injury.

She was hopeful of being in the best possible shape for the long jump this weekend.
