Love, according to ESPN, is scheduled to consult with doctors to consider short-term solutions. However, intense pain combined with an 0-6 start make it unlikely Cleveland will push him back on the court.
The Cavaliers are in a tailspin and fired coach Tyronn Lue yesterday. Love played in the past two losses and is averaging 19.5 points and 13.5 rebounds per game.
Love (30) signed a four-year, $US120 million this offseason after LeBron James left the Cavaliers in free agency.
After firing coach Tyronn Lue, the Cleveland Cavaliers have turned to a fill-in who wants both a title and job security before he'll say yes to coaching the 0-6 team.
Drew wants job security
The Cavaliers have asked Larry Drew, a former NBA head coach who worked on Lue's staff, to serve as interim coach.
ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, however, tweeted that Drew "is willing to bridge the immediate coaching transition with Cavaliers, but so far is reluctant to commit to rest of season without an agreement of some kind that extends beyond 2018-19," citing league sources. Wojnarowski added that "talks are ongoing with Cleveland."
The Athletic reported that Drew considers himself the "voice" of the Cavaliers but not the interim coach.
Drew is taking over a team that is 0-6 without much reason to expect improvement. The Cavs made the NBA Finals after the 2017-18 season but were swept by the Golden State Warriors.
