He was forced to pull out his best shots to beat Russell McDonald (North Otago) 21-18 in the fifth round to win the round-robin tournament against the champions from the five other southern centres.
The win has completed a successful two weeks of bowls for Scott, who has now reached three national finals.
He is also in the intercentre Sixes with Dunedin, and the interclub Sevens with his North East Valley club.
McDonald had the better differential (plus 5) before the final game and would have represented the region at the national final if he had beaten Scott in the fifth round game.
McDonald started aggressively and led 7-2 after seven ends, and 10-6 after 12 ends. But Scott then started to edge ahead with his draw bowls and collected nine shots off the next five ends to lead 15-10 after 17 ends.
Scott (43) also played some telling running shots to spoil the head for McDonald. McDonald, who never gave in, levelled the score at 15-all after 19 ends and drove the jack to the ditch five ends later to be just two shots down, at 20-18, before Scott drew the winning shot.
Daphne Hynes (Dunedin) was forced to play catch-up bowls when beaten 21-16 by Wynette McLachlan (South Otago) in her first game.
She needed a big effort to catch the talented McLachlan, who had a nine-shot lead on the differential over Hynes before her final game.
Hynes (69) has been in superb touch this season, winning three Bowls Dunedin titles and adding a bar to her gold star. She was suffering from the flu on the first day but gained confidence when she held McLachlan, a former international, to a 21-15 loss.
In her final game, Hynes put the pressure back on McLachlan by easily beating Daphne Campbell (North Otago) 21-14.
McLachlan, who was struggling against Margaret O'Connor (Central Otago), rushed into the clubrooms after Hynes' win to check the scoreboard and the differential she needed to go to Rotorua.
O'Connor scored eight shots on the last seven ends to win the game 21-18.
By the time the umpire had completed the addition on the scorecard, Hynes had won the round-robin competition with four wins and differential of plus 22, compared to McLachlan's differential of four wins and a plus 21 differential.
