ODT advertising sales manager Tina Stevens is bravely stepping into the ring for the Southern Showdown charity boxing event on July 27.

More skills, and more skills and more skills. Away with the footwork this week and onto blocking and counterpunching, and punch combos. Talk about sore arms and shoulders!

Ryan, Eldon and the team from NZ Fight and Fitness are working us hard and being very patient.

They are quick to pick up any weaknesses, and sorting out drills to improve it. We have also stepped up the number of sparring sessions, which is really good to put the drills into practice.

Thursday morning saw a full sparring session. Had another full on session with Anna with punch combo drills, and a couple of sparring rounds - the hits are definitely getting bigger!

We worked our punch combos well, but footwork went out the window - guess we will be drilling that next week.

Cherine worked us hard, and we both felt it in the muscles in the Friday morning workout. Think we were both pleased there was no sparring, as we were both struggling to keep the hands up.

Speaking of bit hitters - just missed an opportunity to meet the big guy himself - David Tua. Unfortunately his flight was delayed and was unable to drive into Dunedin for an interview with the crew from the ODT.

Luckily though, our reporter and photographer met him at the airport before he drove south the Invercargill, and I am now sporting a brand new signature on my Southern Showdown team sweatshirt. Very happy. Thanks guys.

We all had a weigh-in early in the week - with some big changes. A few of us girls (yes me included - fist pump moment) lost some kilos.

I really haven't changed anything diet-wise from when I first joined this crazy journey, so it just goes to show that persistence pays off.

Not that I am in this to lose weight - this is just an added bonus to lose some fat and gain muscle.

I also have to be honest and say that early on most of the guys dropped kilos quickly - I gained - no smiles that day that's for sure.

I put that under the ‘I gained muscle' excuse. It's my body, my excuse and I'm sticking with it.
