North Otago, batting first, put up 135 for six wickets in its 20 overs, with Geordie Scott hitting an unbeaten 38, and Darren Broom striking his way to 34.
In reply, Otago Country was never troubled, thanks to Broom.
He made an unbeaten 81, coming in at the loss of the first wicket, striking four fours and five sixes.
Nathan McCullum chipped in with 30.
The Otago Country side won the game with five balls to spare.
Neil Wagner picked up three wickets for North Otago.
The match to decide third ended in a tie, with both Dunedin and Southland hitting 134.
Southland could have won it at the end, as it ran through for two leg byes off the final ball, but those runs were ruled out by the umpire who deemed no shot had been played.
Two Otago trial teams will be named today and a two-day trial at Molyneux Park in Alexandra will be played later this week.
The trial will be vital for not only the players but will also be the test for the ground in Alexandra.
There have been doubts over whether the pitch and ground conditions will be up to first-class standard, and this two-day match will provide a chance to see how it shapes up.
Otago will then play a four-day game at Lincoln next week against Canterbury before it opens its Plunket Shield campaign against Northern Districts in Queenstown on November 9.
